Sonic Mania – Collector’s Edition Arrives – With No Physical Media!

Sonic Mania is an upcoming side-scrolling platform game in the Sonic The Hedgehog series which returns to the series’ 2D roots, reviving the gameplay and visual style of the original Genesis games.

A Sega Genesis themed Collector’s Edition is available for pre-order now, and will be released in Spring 2017.  It includes a 12 inch Sonic statue on top of a Genesis console model, a game cartridge cast with a golden ring, and a metallic collector’s card with download code for the game.  It will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

While this Collector’s Edition looks really cool, the one thing I just can’t get is that there is *no physical media* included!  $70 for a Collector’s Edition with no physical game is just plain wrong, if you ask me.  I’m a huge fan of physical games, and I don’t like the direction that the video game industry is going in with digital only releases.  Perhaps the guys over at Limited Run Games can work with Sega on this one to get a real physical copy included.

Will you be picking this up, even with no physical media?  Let me know in the comments what you think.  It does look pretty cool, and a physical disc would seal the deal for making this a must buy.  Here is a commercial for the Collector’s Edition:
